What's This?

Hello people! As you may know, I’m a fashion designer and my brand recently released its first collection! I also organized a tiny fashion show with many amazing people. I can’t wait to share this amazing experience and the details about the fashion show so here we go!

Let me start from the very beginning, when months ago two of my friends told me that I should have a fashion show for my brand to drop my first collection. This was a great idea and I thought “How difficult it can be?”. But believe me, you can’t even imagine!

I designed the clothes, made the patterns, ordered the fabrics and started sewing them, then my sewing machine stopped working all of a sudden! Nothing could stop me so I got it fixed and kept on working on my amazing first collection. But apparently, I couldn’t tell how time and energy consuming it is to sew 36 articles of clothing in less than one month! That’s why some last-minute adjustments were needed the day of the fashion show.

However, the clothes themselves are not enough to organize a fashion show. I also needed at least 10 models and a few photographers. Luckily, I have a friend who is a model so he helped me to find models and photographers through a Facebook group. On the day of the show, a makeup artist called me and offered to do makeup looks for the show! What a great coincidence, right?

So, I fixed the clothes, dressed all the models, and arranged the room where the models would walk. We didn’t have any guests in person due to the pandemic, which made everything easier. Fortunately, I am very good at making lists so I had planned out which looks each model would wear. I learned that I work calmly and quickly under pressure. We did a short rehearsal and, in the meantime, the photographer did individual shoots with each look. Then I set up my camera and started streaming on Instagram Live!

We did two sets of walks: one for the New Collection and one for the Up-cycled Collection. I was so nervous, so stressed and so proud of myself that I couldn’t even watch the fashion show while it was ACTUALLY HAPPENING!

After the show, we celebrated its success, and when I watched the livestream video, I was pleased to see that everything went smoothly and that everyone rocked their outfits!

While I could say I did everything by myself, I must acknowledge the help and dedication of my friends. All of them helped me in different ways; one friend cooked for me for days while I was getting the garments ready and helped me carry them on the subway and up the four-floor walkup, one of them let me have the fashion show in her house and fixed the clothes with me, another friend helped me with organization during the show and another one helped me with models and hyped me up literally every day!

No amount of thanks is enough for my friends and every single person who worked for this tiny fashion show! This was a whole new experience for me and it turned out even better than I could imagine! And you can watch this show on my Instagram page (@goksuguneylioglu)!

I didn’t want to lecture about how to organize a fashion show but if you ever think about organizing a show or an exhibition, now you know how to do it! I hope my experiences give you some ideas and suggestions! Until then, bye byes fashion pies!
